History

Date Posted to GIS:
1997
  • 1997: The GIS department obtained river information from the Provincial governments Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) project.
  • 1998: Some river information was augmented through the use of GPS surveying in the developed region. The location of the wetted edge of significant rivers was collected using a Trimble Pro XR GPS unit and differentially corrected by students performing intern work for the District of North Vancouver. Not all rivers in the developed region were GPS surveyed during this project.
  • 2003: The remaining rivers which had not been GPS surveyed in 1998 were updated. Using recently acquired colour orthoimagery the new and more accurate location of rivers were re-digitized into the GIS.

Quality

Accuracy
  • As per TRIM specifications and augmented by digitizing from 2003 orthoimagery. Some rivers have been GPS surveyed.
  • Spatial information is collected and entered using the best method applicable to this dataset.
  • Spatial information is higly accurate and reasonably the best it can be.
  • Where multiple collection/entry methods, the more accurate method is predominant throughout this dataset.
Completeness
  • Spatial information is known to be complete, expected to be complete or very close to complete.
  • Smaller rivers may be missing. Intermittent rivers and smaller tributaries may not be present.

Maintenance

The GIS department digitizes any updates into this dataset from the most recent orthoimagery. In some cases, information can be obtained through GPS surveys and the GIS updated accordingly.
