History

Date Posted to GIS:
2004
  • 2003: The building footprints (not roof outlines) were originally collected when the District of North Vancouver acquired new orthoimagery in April 2003. The building footprints were digitized by McElhanney Ltd.
  • 2008: A formula for population estimates was derived in 2008 and values assigned accordingly to each residential building.
  • 2012: Attributes indicating the building's structural type and number of stories were added. This information was initially collected by Natrual Resources Canada during the HAZUS Project, but ongoing maintenance will be done by DNV GIS.

Quality

Accuracy
  • The majority of the building footprints were digitized from orthoimagery, therefore the spatial accuracy is dependant upon the quality of orthorectification. Typically, it is estimated that these building footprints are accurate within +/- 0.5m. Building footprints entered from architectural drawings are georeferenced from surveyed building plans, therefore It is estimated that these footprints are accurate within +/- 0.3m.
  • Spatial information is collected and entered using the next best method applicable to this dataset.
  • Spatial information is very accurate but could be improved using a better collection technique.
  • Where multiple collection/entry methods, the more accurate method is predominant throughout this dataset.
Completeness
  • Some spatial information may be missing.

Maintenance

The Planning Department submits buildings plans to the GIS department so that new buildings and demolished buildings can be updated.
